Courtice Pounds was an effective stage professional and vocalist in operetta and musicals for a lot of his professional lifestyle. One of the most celebrated element of his profession was perhaps his time using the D’Oyly Carte Opera Firm which he became a member of in 1881 as Tenor Chorister, understudying Durward Lely, afterwards progressing to Primary Tenor and creating the assignments of Fairfax in “The Yeomen from the Safeguard” and Marco Palmieri in “The Gondoliers”. When he still left the Carte in 1895, he previously also performed the next principal assignments in various other Gilbert and Sullivan operas: The Accused in “Trial By Jury”, Ralph in “HMS Pinafore”, Tolloller in “Iolanthe”, Hilarion in “Princess Ida”, Nanki-Poo in “The Mikado”, and Richard Dauntless in “Ruddigore”. His initial wife was fellow D’Oyly Carte vocalist, contralto Jessie Gaston (afterwards Jessie Pounds, afterwards Jessie Gaston-Murray). She sang using the Carte between 1885 and 1886, 1891 and 1892 and 1898 and 1901, playing the assignments of Mrs Partlet in “The Sorcerer”, Ruth in “The Pirates of Penzance”, Jane in “Tolerance” and Inez in “The Gondoliers”. Courtice’s four sisters also sang using the D’Oyly Carte: Lily Pounds, who wedded fellow Carte vocalist George Mudie, sang with the business in 1888 like a mezzo-soprano chorister, and performed the part of Kate in “The Pirates of Penzance”; Rosy Pounds, who sang like a chorister during 1887; Nancy Pounds, who wedded D’Oyly Carte bass William H. Kemble, and performed the tasks of Hebe in “HMS Pinafore”, Isabel in “The Pirates of Penzance”, Pitti-Sing in “The Mikado” and Phylla in “Utopia, Ltd.” between 1887 and 1888, 1893 and 1895 and 1901 and 1903; and primary mezzo-soprano ‘Louie Pounds”. Courtice Pounds later on wedded celebrity Millicent Pine.
