Founder from the experimental-animation plan in CalArts in 1970 (where he taught for over 30 years), and a creator from the UPA computer animation studio room, Jules Engel choreographed the famous hippopotamus/alligator dance, the bottle-dancing Cossack thistles as well as the mushroom ballet within “Fantasia” (1940). His learners would continue to animate such features as “The Problem Before Xmas”, “Acquiring Nemo”, “The Lion Ruler” and “Gadget Story”.
