Mini Biography

Edith Johnson’s mix of good luck and beauty ensured her a Hollywood profession. The good luck occurred due to her developing up in Rochester, NY, the home from the Eastman Kodak Co. Her beauty led to her getting appointed by Kodak as “The Kodak Gal,” with her encounter appearing in practically all of the papers and periodicals of your day in Kodak advertisements, leading her to become called “one of the most photographed gal in the globe”–and all before she completed college. Her superstar led to her on offer a film agreement with the Selig Co., which she recognized when she graduated from Vassar. Her initial few films had been with professional William Duncan, whom she ultimately wedded, and after many more movies for Selig, she jumped dispatch to Common in 1916. Her two-year stay there finished when she shifted to Vitagraph. She started producing serials with her spouse, who both starred in and aimed them, for Vitagraph and Common again. The movies were enormously effective, but Duncan and Johnson chafed beneath the heavy-handed administration at Common, plus they retired after their last film for the studio room, 1924’s “Wolves from the North.” That they had a vaudeville work together for some time, then settled right down to the duty of increasing their family members. Duncan got on many film roles later on in life, especially as Hopalong Cassidy’s sidekick “Buck Peters”, but his wife got no desire to come back to movies, and didn’t. She outlived her hubby by eight years, and passed away in 1969.
