A indigenous of Baltimore, Maryland, Howard Ashman moved to NEW YORK in 1974 and began composing plays while functioning as an editor inside a posting house. His function attracted interest and he became WPA Theatre’s designer movie director in 1977. In 1982, Ashman collaborated with composer Alan Menken for the musical “Small Store of Horrors”, among off-Broadway’s highest-grossing musicals. One of these, “Beneath the Ocean”, gained an Oscar in 1989 for greatest song.
