Mini Biography

Created Helen Reitman [girl of anarchist Ben Reitman, partner of Emma Goldman and writer of “Autobiography of Boxcar Bertha”]. In her youth, she had some success like a author of children’s books [“Tom Cats,” “The Mutt Book,” “Pancho and his Burro”], that have been illustrated by her partner Eleanor Byrnes, but that likely ended using the 1932 publication of her publication on nudism in Germany, “ONGOING Naked.” The success of the book allowed Gay to start out her own nudist colony in Highlands, NY known as the Out-of-Doors Club. With Homosexual interviewing all potential members ahead of entrance it became probably the most special and famous from the nudists colonies of that time period. The Outside Club, Gay’s publication and Gay’s nudist documentary “This Nude Age group,” which performed like a “Street Show” through the entire 1930s, were the beginning of the nudist motion in america. In 1935, Gay helped to determine the brand new York Commission for the analysis of Sex Variants, that she served as both a topic of study and a researcher, but she divided using the Commission as the analysis they conducted increasingly treated homosexuality like a pathology — although it was Gay’s belief that higher knowledge would result in higher acceptance. After Gay’s departure, the analysis devolved into an ever-greater exercise in homophobia, actually including an effort to get the defining physical characteristics from the homosexual, to be able to better shield society using their deviance. JanGay died from tumor at age 58 in San Rafael, California about Sept 12, 1960.
