Blessed in Sunflower, Mississippi, in 1929, Matt “Electric guitar” Murphy is recognized as perhaps one of the most respected sidemen in the blues. He provides performed on albums and in concerts for everybody from Memphis Slim and Adam Natural cotton to ‘Bobby Blue Bland’ and Junior Parker (he also came out in The Blues Brothers (1980)). Unlike many sidemen, nevertheless, he cut hardly any records by himself, and it wasn’t until 1990 that he released his initial album, “Method Down South”.
