Actually, Coote had specific in playing aristocrats and armed forces guys in countless movies, especially as Sergeant Bertie Higginbotham in George Stevens’s 1939 traditional Gunga Din (1939). (In true to life, Coote offered using the Royal Canadian Surroundings Force during Globe War Two, learning to be a squadron head.) He possibly was overlooked for the film (seeing that was Julie Andrews, more notably) because of a strained romantic relationship with superstar Rex Harrison, who stole business originated by Coote through the primary Broadway creation. Harrison resented Coote after unsuccessfully challenging to dominate a famous little bit of business made by Coote, Colonel Pickering’s mobile call. Coote recreated the function in the 1976 Broadway revival.
