Composer, songwriter, conductor, vocalist and acting professional, educated in Tufts College or university, Juilliard, as well as the University from the Pacific (hon. Mus. D.). He acted on radio and tv besides on film, and performed Leroy for the “Amos ‘n Andy” radio series for fifteen years. He aimed the Federal Theater Task, and was associate conductor from the ‘Hall Johnson Choir’ in NY for fifteen years and qualified choirs for radio and Broadway musicals. Arriving at Hollywood in 1936, he sang and made an appearance using the Hall Johnson Choir in the film The Green Pastures (1936). Organizing his personal choir in 1943, he organized and carried out film vocals and carried out choral organizations in schools and high universities, touring European countries for the STATE DEPT. in 1961. Becoming a member of ASCAP in 1956, his popular-song compositions consist of “Mary’s Boy Kid,” “Poor Guy Lazarus,” and several Gospel music including “In Dat Great Gittin’ Up Mornin’,” “Amen,” and “Gossip, Gossip.”
