Starting out like a song-and-dance guy within the last many years of vaudeville, Rudy Toombs was a prolific composer and lyricist of doo-wop and rhythm and blues standards through the ’50’s and ’60s; his widow approximated that he either constructed the music or composed the lyrics for over 500 songs. He strike his stride being a article writer and arranger for Ahmet Ertegun’s Atlantic Information. Among his best-known music are “One Mint Julep” (sung with the Clovers, visited #2 2 in the graphs in 1951), “5-10-15 Hours” (sung by Ruth Dark brown; this song completed #1 1 in 1951), “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beverage”, originally documented by John Lee Hooker, but included in George Thorogood; “Gum Drop,” “Teardrops From My Eye,” another strike for Ruth Dark brown, and afterwards, Ray Charles; “I’m Shakin'”, popular for Small Willie John; “Lonesome River Blues,” “I Cried and Cried” and “I Get yourself a Thrill.” Toombs was beaten to loss of life in the hallway of his house house, the consequence of a failed mugging.
